Feeling forgotten? Facing a future that appears bleak?
by Peter Elks - 29 April 2020
But I am poor and needy; Yet the Lord thinks upon me.
Psalm 40:17 (NKJV)
In times when the outlook is bleak and everything else fails, this is an amazing statement to ponder.
The writer looks at himself and sees his poverty and need, and it seems wherever he looks, there’s no-one around to help. People have forgotten all about him.
The depressing thought comes: ‘Yes, it’s true. I’m on the breadline and I’ve got nothing to offer God but my spiritual poverty and need.’
And immediately words flash into his mind and penetrate his inner consciousness like a brilliant beam of light:

‘But God, the Eternal Almighty One, thinks about me…’
And instead of looking down, he begins to look up to God and exclaims in wonder:
‘You are my help and my Rescuer!’
So then he cries out in all his human desperation,
‘Please come and rescue me! Please don’t delay!’
And like all who call on the name of Jesus Christ, whether man or woman, young or old, they find He comes instantly to the rescue:
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”'
Romans 10:13 (NKJV)
God is faithful: He does exactly what He’s promised to do. He can be trusted.
